Many organizations offer scholarships to encourage student mobility. In general, these organizations offer two types of scholarships: an undergraduate scholarship and a postgraduate scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to students with high academic performance. So it's important to understand which types of scholarship are available, and which best suit your profile.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation has made over 600 scholarships available to Moroccan students pursuing higher education abroad for the 2021-2022 academic year.

To qualify, you must be studying at one of the following levels:

  • Final year of a Bachelor's or Bachelor's degree
  • 2nd or 3rd year of engineering studies
  • Master's degree
  • Doctorate/PHD

There are three types of scholarships for studying abroad:

  • Partial scholarships: cover part of your tuition fees. Funding can cover from part to almost all of tuition fees, but does not cover other expenses (rent, meals, etc.).
  • University loan: this is a loan of money that covers part or all of tuition fees. These scholarships are generally awarded to foreign students who have been resident in the country for two years.
  • Full scholarships: these are the scholarships every applicant wants, as they cover the cost of everything needed to study abroad. From the study program to living expenses, everything is taken care of. This type of scholarship is the most optimal for students, as it allows them to concentrate on their studies and not have to worry about the financial side of things.
  • Bourse Eiffel (France): offered annually, this scholarship is mainly aimed at foreign students wishing to do a Master's or PhD in France. Promoted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is awarded to foreign students aged 25 or under for a Master's degree and 30 or under for a Doctorate.
  • Excellence-Major scholarship from the Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'étranger (AEFE) and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
  • Islamic Development Bank scholarship
  • Fulbright Scholarship (USA): an excellent option for those who have always dreamed of studying in the United States. A good level of English with tests such as TOEFL are required.

How to prepare your application?

To apply for the various scholarship programs, you need to prepare your application thoroughly. Generally speaking, scholarship applications are made online, and the documents making up the application file vary according to the type and program of the targeted scholarship. Transcripts, essays and letters of recommendation will generally be the essential elements of your application for a study abroad scholarship.

You'll also need to take into account application deadlines, as each scholarship application abroad has its own deadline. In fact, there are thousands of scholarship programs with spring and summer deadlines, and thousands more with fall and winter deadlines. So make sure you find out about them as soon as possible, and start your journey without delay!
